GetWell OSMO PRO 1500G – industrial reverse osmosis system, 250 l/h

The GetWell OSMO PRO 1500G industrial reverse osmosis (RO) unit produces 250 litres of purified water per hour, equivalent to approx. 6,000 litres of permeate per day in continuous operation. The unit works with 1 × 4040 RO membrane in an FRP composite pressure vessel.

Who is this series for?

FRP composite pressure vessels, sized for continuous, multi-shift industrial operation. This series extends up to the highest capacities, with 8040 membranes.

What does reverse osmosis remove?

RO is the finest pressure-driven membrane filtration process: the semi-permeable membrane retains the vast majority of the water's dissolved salts, hardness, nitrate and heavy metals, as well as microbiological contaminants. The resulting low-conductivity water is needed wherever raw water quality alone is not sufficient for the process:

  • Food and beverage industry: recipe water, bottling, brewing, soft drink production – where the taste and salt content of the water go directly into the product
  • HoReCa: central kitchen and bar water supply, ice machines, coffee machines, combi ovens and steamers – here, scale protection translates directly into equipment service life
  • Pharmaceutical industry and laboratories: the first stage of purified water production, upstream of EDI or ion exchange
  • Industrial processes: boiler and cooling circuit make-up water, surface treatment, rinse water
  • Agriculture: desalination of irrigation water, hydroponics, where high salt content limits crop yields

Configuration

  • 1 × 4040 RO membrane in an FRP composite pressure vessel
  • High-pressure feed pump, 230 V mains supply
  • Industrial control panel with automatic flushing and status indication
  • High- and low-pressure switches to protect the pump
  • Solenoid valve for controlling feed and flushing
  • Flow meters on the permeate and concentrate lines
  • Pressure gauges for monitoring pressure upstream and downstream of the membrane
  • Ready-to-install, enclosed frame

Important note on output: the rated output applies to a feed water temperature of 25 °C and raw water quality as specified in the membrane data sheet. With colder water or higher salt content, the actual output will be lower – with 10 °C winter water, capacity can drop to as little as half the rated value. That is why we always ask for a water analysis for sizing.

Pretreatment – the key to equipment service life

The RO membrane is the most expensive wear part, and in practice it almost never fails through a fault of the membrane itself, but because of inadequate pretreatment. The following are always required upstream of the unit:

  • Mechanical pre-filtration – typically in 20 and 5 micron stages, to retain suspended solids.
  • Activated carbon filtration – free chlorine irreversibly damages the polyamide membrane. This is the most common cause of premature membrane failure.
  • Water softening or antiscalant dosing – with hard water, calcium and magnesium salts precipitate on the membrane surface and permanently reduce output.
  • Iron and manganese removal – almost always necessary with well water, as oxidising iron clogs the membrane.

Correct pretreatment can only be designed on the basis of a laboratory analysis of the raw water. Send us your water analysis and we will size the complete system – not just the RO unit.

Installation and operation

Installing an industrial RO system is a job for specialists: it requires adequate feed pressure and water volume, concentrate drainage, an electrical connection and permeate storage. Bear in mind too that part of the feed water is discharged as concentrate – the proportion depends on raw water quality and the set recovery rate.

Commissioning and regular maintenance – membrane cleaning, pre-filter replacement, output and conductivity measurement – are best handled under a service contract. Regular performance measurement is the only way to detect membrane deterioration in time.

Filtration performance

The unit is fitted with a WATERRO LP-4040-3000 polyamide thin-film composite (TFC) industrial RO membrane. Its stable salt rejection according to the manufacturer's data sheet is 99.5%, under the following test conditions: 1,500 mg/l NaCl solution, 10.3 bar (150 psi) operating pressure, 25 °C, pH 7.0 ±0.5, 15% recovery. Without the test conditions the percentage on its own is not a comparable figure, which is why we state them.

Rejection varies by component. The ranges below are general empirical values typical of polyamide RO membranes, not the manufacturer's own measurements:

  • Divalent ions (calcium, magnesium, sulphate): 98–99.5%
  • Monovalent ions (sodium, chloride): 95–99%
  • Nitrate, fluoride: 90–95%
  • Heavy metals (lead, cadmium, chromium): 95–98%
  • Bacteria, cysts, viruses, microplastics: more than 99.99%
  • Free chlorine and dissolved gases (CO₂, O₂, H₂S): not retained by the membrane

Operating limits: max. 3,000 ppm feed TDS, max. 45 °C water temperature, max. SDI15 = 5, free chlorine below 0.1 ppm, pH 3–10. Compliance with these limits is also a condition of the warranty – especially the chlorine limit, as exceeding it irreversibly damages the membrane.

Recommended pre-filtration – protecting the membrane

This unit does not include a pre-filter. The RO membrane is the most expensive wear part of the system, and in practice it almost never fails on its own, but because of missing or undersized pretreatment. We therefore recommend pre-filtration for every installation – at three levels:

  • 3M™ Aqua-Pure™ AP055T – for retaining suspended solids and sediment. This is the minimum: it prevents particulate matter from depositing on the membrane surface and reducing output.
  • AP055T + 3M™ Aqua-Pure™ AP117NP – the AP117NP is a 5-micron activated carbon depth filter cartridge in a 10" format. It is important for removing free chlorine: chlorine irreversibly damages the polyamide membrane and is the most common cause of premature membrane failure. For systems running on chlorinated mains water, we consider this pair the standard set-up.
  • 3M™ Aqua-Pure™ AP903 – a complete high-flow pre-filter system in a single unit, with a hygienic quick-change cartridge. We recommend this for higher water demand and continuous multi-shift operation.

With hard water, water softening or antiscalant dosing is also required alongside pre-filtration, and with well water, iron and manganese removal as well. Exactly what is needed depends on the laboratory analysis of the raw water – send us your water analysis and we will size the complete line.

Scale inhibition where no water softener is installed

With hard water, mechanical and activated carbon pre-filtration alone is not enough: calcium and magnesium salts precipitate on the membrane surface and permanently reduce output. Where no water softener is installed, the 3M™ Aqua-Pure™ SF18-S scale inhibition cartridge can be considered as entry-level protection. Using sequestration technology, it keeps hardness salts in solution so they cannot deposit.

It is important to keep this in perspective: sequestration capacity is limited and decreases in proportion to water hardness and flow. For higher-capacity machines and persistently hard water, water softening or antiscalant dosing is the right solution – the SF18-S complements these, it does not replace them. Which one is needed depends on the hardness of the raw water and the planned recovery rate.
